Ingredients

For the Beef Donburi
  • 1 lb beef thinly sliced, tender cuts like ribeye or sirloin
  • 2 cups cooked rice your favorite type—white, brown, or jasmine
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup shiso leaves finely chopped
  • 2 green onions sliced
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Equipment

  • Skillet

Method

  1. Step 1: Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Step 2: Add the sliced beef to the skillet and cook until browned, stirring occasionally, for about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Step 3: In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, mirin, and sugar until well combined. Pour this mixture over the cooked beef and stir to coat.
  4. Step 4: Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Step 5: Serve the cooked beef over a bowl of warm rice.
  6. Step 6: Top with chopped shiso leaves, sliced green onions, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Enjoy immediately!

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm it up in a skillet or microwave, adding a splash of water to keep the rice moist.
