  • 1 tbsp mirin a touch of sweetness that balances the savory notes
  • 1 tbsp sake enhances the flavor complexity
  • 1 tbsp sugar for a hint of sweetness
  • 1 clove garlic minced, a fragrant addition that brings depth
  • 1 tsp ginger grated, adds a lovely warmth and spice
  • 1 green onion finely chopped for a fresh crunch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil for cooking, helps to achieve that golden-brown exterior

Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Large Skillet

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onion, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together until well combined.
  2. Step 2: Shape the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  3. Step 3: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Step 4: Add the pork balls to the skillet and cook for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through.
  5. Step 5: Remove the pork balls from the skillet and set them aside.
  6. Step 6: In the same skillet, add a little more soy sauce and mirin if desired, and simmer for 2 minutes to create a glaze.
  7. Step 7: Return the pork balls to the skillet, tossing them in the glaze to coat evenly.
  8. Step 8: Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

If you have leftovers, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To reheat, simply warm them in a skillet over low heat or in the microwave until heated through. These pork balls also freeze well—just make sure to separate them with parchment paper before storing in a freezer-safe bag.
