  • 1 cup shredded carrots Sweet and colorful, they bring a lovely texture.
  • 1 cup finely chopped mushrooms They add umami and moisture to the filling.
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped For a fresh and mild onion flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced A must for that aromatic punch.
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated It adds a warm spice that complements the other veggies beautifully.
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce For that savory depth we all crave.
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil It gives a lovely nutty aroma.
For the Gyoza
  • 1 package gyoza wrappers You can find these at most grocery stores or Asian markets.
  • vegetable oil for frying For a crispy texture on the bottom.
  • water for steaming Essential for ensuring the gyoza cook perfectly.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • Large Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped cabbage, shredded carrots, chopped mushrooms, green onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  2. Step 2: Add the soy sauce and sesame oil to the vegetable mixture and mix well.
  3. Step 3: Place a gyoza wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the vegetable filling into the center of the wrapper.
  4. Step 4: Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half to create a half-moon shape and pinch the edges to seal.
  5. Step 5: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Arrange the gyoza in the skillet, making sure they do not touch each other.
  6. Step 6: Fry the gyoza for about 3-4 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
  7. Step 7: Carefully add a few tablespoons of water to the skillet and cover immediately to steam the gyoza. Allow them to steam for about 5-6 minutes or until the water has evaporated.
  8. Step 8: Remove the lid and cook for an additional minute to let any remaining moisture evaporate.
  9. Step 9: Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce.

Notes

If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply pan-fry with a splash of water to steam them back to perfection. If you freeze them, they should last about a month.
