Ingredients
  

For the Saba Misoni
  • 2 fillets mackerel Fresh or frozen
  • 3 tbsp miso paste Heart of the dish
  • 2 tbsp sake Enhances umami flavor
  • 2 tbsp mirin Sweet rice wine
  • 1 tbsp sugar Adds sweetness
  • 1 cup water Helps create sauce
For garnish
  • sliced green onions

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a saucepan, combine the miso paste, sake, mirin, sugar, and water. Stir well to dissolve the miso and sugar completely.
  2. Step 2: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  3. Step 3: Add the mackerel fillets to the saucepan, skin side down, and let them soak up the sauce.
  4. Step 4: Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the mackerel is cooked through and tender.
  5. Step 5: Carefully remove the mackerel from the saucepan and place it on a serving dish.
  6. Step 6: Drizzle some of the miso sauce over the mackerel and garnish with sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently to enjoy again.
