Ingredients
  

For the Ume Plum Syrup
  • 500 g ume plums
  • 300 g granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Wash the ume plums thoroughly and remove the stems.
  2. Step 2: In a clean, sterilized jar, layer the ume plums and granulated sugar, starting with a layer of sugar at the bottom.
  3. Step 3: Pour the water over the plums and sugar in the jar.
  4. Step 4: Seal the jar tightly and let it sit in a cool, dark place for about 2-4 weeks, shaking it gently every few days.
  5. Step 5: Once the syrup has reached the desired flavor and consistency, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a clean container, discarding the solids.
  6. Step 6: Store the ume plum syrup in a sealed bottle in the refrigerator for up to six months.

Notes

Homemade syrup makes a thoughtful gift. You can also experiment with flavors by adding lemon juice or herbs.
