Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes
Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: Japanese

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Japanese short-grain rice sticky and perfect for sushi or just enjoying on its own
  • 2.5 cups water the right amount is key to achieving fluffy texture
  • 1 pinch salt optional for flavor

Equipment

  • Rice Cooker
  • Pot
  • Fine Mesh Strainer

Method

  1. Step 1: Start by rinsing the rice under cold water in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
  2. Step 2: In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rinsed rice and water. If you'd like, add a pinch of salt.
  3. Step 3: If using a rice cooker, follow the manufacturer's instructions. For a pot, bring the water to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 18-20 minutes.
  4. Step 4: Once cooked, remove from heat and let the rice sit covered for 10 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
